RML ENGINES CELEBRATES 50TH WIN

24/10/2009

Since forming in January 2006, the RML Engines division based at the Wellingborough factory has been supplying enviable power and highly trained track support staff to RML's in-house touring car teams, running in the World and British series', and to partners running Chevrolet Lacettis in national championships across Europe.

Participating in 103 different events through 2009 alone, RML Engines took its dramatic 50th win in the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship season finale at Brands Hatch, courtesy of Jason Plato.

Initially operating with just three employees, today the department has grown to twelve dedicated members of staff, all with a wealth of experience and desirable skill sets from all major motorsport categories, enabling RML Engines to supply the complete engine package, from design and development, to build and track support services, all for any brand and specification engine.

It was Alain Menu who took the first win, in the FIA WTCC at Brands Hatch back in 2006.  Since then the department has grown from strength to strength and in its four-year existence, boasts some impressive results with nineteen wins in the FIA WTCC to date, and hopefully more to follow as the series reaches its climax at Okayama next weekend and Macau at the end of November.  RML dominated the second half of this year's BTCC, the first time they have entered the series with the Lacetti, and it proved greatly rewarding for all, claiming eleven wins.

And with two back-to-back wins at the prestigious Bologna Motorshow with Nicola Larini at the helm of the Lacetti and seventeen wins in Danish Touring Cars over the past four years, all have contributed to a hugely successful record.

RML makes full use of high-level technology that is usually found in Formula 1 engines.  It also benefits from all their engines being run and developed on an F1 development dyno, which is far more sophisticated than that of any other touring car team

Ray Mallock: "Fifty wins over four competitive years in various championships is a fantastic achievement for RML Engines.  Looking back over the past few seasons, RML has enjoyed some excellent results, enabling the cars, in whatever series', to savour race wins, podiums and a strong presence in championship title fights.   These successes are reward to all for their commitment and drive to be the best.  We have two more race events yet in the WTCC, but looking to 2010, we'll be aiming for even more."
