50 years of racing Mallocks

05/08/2008

In August 2008 a very special event at Silverstone will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Mallock marque, with two races dedicated solely to Mallocks as well as a parade of Mallocks during the 750 Motor Club race meeting on 23/24 August.

It was in 1958 that Major Arthur Mallock sold the first customer version of his ground breaking U2 sports-racing car. Now, 50 years later, production of sports-racing cars bearing the Mallock name continues under the same family ownership, making the Mallock marque unique in the turbulent and unpredictable world of race car manufacturer.

To celebrate this remarkable landmark, Mallock Sports and the Mallock Club have worked with the 750 Motor Club to make Mallock the focal point of a two-day race meeting at Silverstone on the August Bank Holiday weekend.

The weekend will include a static display of cars and a Mallock Allcomers race on Saturday afternoon, featuring cars form the Clubmans Cup and Classic Clubmans Championships, as well as historic cars. On Sunday morning, a grand parade of Mallock cars will be held before racing starts and could create a record for the greatest number of Mallock cars ever on a track together at one time.

Records show that a high percentage of nearly 500 cars produced over the course of 50 years are still in existence and many are still competing and winning on a regular basis.

During Sunday's race programme, the weekend highlight will be the Mallock Gold Cup, a handicap race open to all Mallocks from the earliest surviving Mk2 through to the latest Mk35 Synergy. As this will be a handicap race, all ages of car have an equal chance of winning. Three members of the Mallock family will be racing; Arthur's sons Ray and Richard along with Ray's son Michael will all be on the grid.

To ensure that the weekend is a great success Ray and Richard hope that all current Mallock owners will attend, either to race, take part in the parade, put their car on display or simply join in the celebrations.

It is wholly appropriate that the event is being held at Silverstone, the home track for the Mallock family. Arthur raced his U2 Mk1 for the first time in the spring of 1958 at Silverstone, finishing fourth in an allcomers race during the 8 Clubs meeting.

"Arthur raced with the 750MC and his company developed with the club, so we're delighted to be linked with the 50th anniversary of Mallock," said Robin Knight of the 750 Motor Club.
