– RML’s 400 bhp / 40kg three cylinder 1.5 litre petrol engine receives prestigious motorsport industry award at World Motorsport Symposium

WELLINGBOROUGH [UK] – Friday 5 December: Earlier this week RML’s Director of Powertrain, Arnaud Martin attended the annual Race Tech World Motorsport Symposium – an event which brings the industry elite together and plays host to discussion forums.
Chaired by Audi Sport’s head of engine technology, Ulrich Baretzky and Caterham F1’s technical director, John Iley, Arnaud was joined by a plethora of industry experts from across the motorsport and automotive arena to discuss ‘Disruptive Technologies; new innovations so important they render the previous approach obsolete.’
In response to this theme, Arnaud presented the ZEOD RC powertrain, discussing the complexities and challenges posed (and overcome) in order for the expert powertrain team at RML to achieve the accolade of World’s Fastest EV Lap with Nissan’s Garage 56 project at Le Mans earlier this year.
An integral part of the event includes the esteemed Annual Awards dinner, with senior engineers and designers alike competing for one of four awards, including the Dino Toso Racecar Aerodynamicist of the Year, Racing Engine Designer of the Year and The Most Innovative New Motorsport Product of the Year.
A new edition for 2014, RML was honored to receive the Most Innovative Engine Design of the Year – awarded for ‘ground-breaking advances which push the boundaries of racing engine design’.
Collecting the award on behalf of RML, Arnaud paid tribute to his team: “On behalf of all at RML, it is a great honour to receive such an award.
“From a technological point of view this project is, and will continue to be, one of the most interesting that I personally have been involved in. Without doubt it was not an easy task to power the ZEOD RC to a world first, but despite several challenges along the way, our team of experts did just that. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to them for enabling such success, and of course to Nissan for giving us the opportunity to mastermind something as special as this.
“Regrettably we didn’t manage the full race distance, so to that extent it does feel a little bit like unfinished business for us all, but we look back on an extraordinary year with many positives, and, given such tight timescales, can be proud of such a huge achievement.”
