RML Heritage at Silverstone Classic
Wellingborough (UK) – 3rd August 2016:
Silverstone Classic this year proved to be a bumper event with grids even bigger and better than last year. RML’s unrivalled heritage of racing in different disciplines was well represented with cars from each decade from the 60’s through to the early 2000’s either racing or on display.
Cars representing RML’s heritage over the decades included:
1960’s – 3 x Formula Junior U2’s
1970’s – Mallock U2 Mk14 in the HSCC 50 year celebration parade
1980’s – Aston AMR1 Group C (1989)
1990’s – BTCC Cavalier (1995) the design that secured multiple Supertouring titles globally in 1995 including John Cleland in the BTCC
1990’s – Nissan Primera (1998) having won multiple Supertouring titles in 1998 and 1999 around the world and in the BTCC
2000’s – Saleen S7 of the type which took multiple GT1 titles globally in the early 2000’s
RML founder Ray Mallock raced in the Formula Junior events in one of the earliest examples of Mallock customer race cars, the U2 mk2 designed by Rays father Arthur Mallock. Ray took a class win and a second place in the two races, a testament to the RML team running the car which included Apprentice Maddison Harvey. RML believes in investing in our future stars with our Apprenticeship and Graduate programmes, ensuring RML cars will continue to appear on Historic and Modern day grids around the world.
RML Director Michael Mallock, Grandson of Arthur and son of Ray, raced in the Classic GT event with the Aston Martin Project 214 alongside owner Wolfgang Friedrichs. Aston Martin is a brand which RML has had strong links with since its inception and continues to this day.
Catch up with RML’s current programmes at the next FIA World Touring Car event this weekend at Rio Hondo where four RML Chevrolet Cruze TC1 cars will be doing battle with the other manufacturers and the next round of the BTCC at Knockhill.
