RML double helping of tin-top’s

Wellingborough (UK) – 4 May 2016:

RML Group is looking forward to another double helping of tin-top racing this weekend as the British Touring Car Championship heads to Thruxton and the World Touring Car Championship to Marrakech, both looking like hot weekends with even the UK circuit predicting 21°C over the weekend.

The competition in BTCC is close with 6 different winners from 6 races and all from cars running the new RML parts, optional for this year, Pole time at Brands Hatch for Tom Ingram in the Speedworks Motorsport Toyota was the first BTCC driver to set a time inside the 47 second bracket on the 1.2 mile circuit and from a commanding drive continued on to win the first race of the season and his first in BTCC.

Race 2 at Brands was a Honda one-two, led home by Gordon Shedden, followed by team mate Matt Neal and a good result for the Team Dynamics Honda, Adam Morgan held off a challenge from the BMW’s to take victory in Race 3.

Donington bought three more winners to the podium with Mat Jackson in the Ford Focus taking race 4 after the MG’s of Ashely Sutton and Josh Cook had taken an impressive one-two in qualifying with their mixed RML/GPRM car set up. Race 5 was winner number 5 with Rob Collard bringing the BMW home impressively with a charge from 6th place on the grid, taking 3 places in the opening lap.

Race 6 was a reverse of Race 2 at Brands with Honda taking a one-two, but this time it was Matt Neal leading home Gordon Shedden and the pair now head the leader board overall in the driver standings.

Five different marks of car have taken honours from the opening rounds, with 23 cars out of the 32 grid running RML kits, several teams and drivers have commented that the arrival of the RML components have helped level the playing field, with the introduction going fairly smoothly and as teams get more used to the set up the field is likely to get even closer.

Thruxton will be the ultimate speed test, being the quickest circuit on the calendar, Wheel to wheel racing at up to 160mph will not be for the faint hearted and on the bespoke special Dunlop tyre for this event, could we get yet another different winner on the Podium?

RML Group will be in full attendance at the weekend providing technical backup, spare parts and support from our BTCC support truck in the paddock, our technical partners, Henri-lloyd and APTI will be once again assisting us with Clothing and Travel and making our job a lot easier.

RML are delighted to be involved again this year in the World Touring Car Championship with the Chevrolet RML Cruze TC1 car. Currently with three teams running our cars and additional drivers announced to be joining, once again the Cruze is showing its presence in the championship.

Campos Racing, Munnich Motorsport and ROAL Motorsport entered Cruzes from round 1 and NIKA International are due to join shortly with a car for John Bryant. The Cruze has shown its strength in qualifying with some very impressive runs in the hands of Tom Coronel, 4th at Paul Ricard and then 2nd on the grid in Hungary shows that the car really has pace and can take the fight to the factory teams.

Tom currently sits third in the WTCC Trophy with John Filippi in the Campos run Cruze a respectable forth. With guest appearances in the Munnich Motorsport Cruze for both James Thompson and now Sabine Schmitz the season looks interesting with a number of drivers sampling the abilities of the Chevrolect RML Cruze TC1 car.
