Wellingborough [UK] – Sunday 5 October 2014: ROAL Motorsport & Tom Chilton have today claimed a lights-to-flag victory in the opening race of the FIA World Touring Car Championship round in Beijing, having stormed to pole position in yesterday’s qualifying session.
Speaking after his race victory, Tom Chilton enthused: “It’s absolutely fantastic, I am so happy with this win. It’s my third one in the WTCC, and the second in China – which shows this country brings me luck! We were very pleased with the performance of the car; actually the circuit suited us much better than we had anticipated.
“I got a perfect start, then pushed hard to build an advantage. The safety-car period occurred shortly after but I managed to stay cool and avoid Yvan Muller to outbrake me at the restart. I rebuilt the gap and that was enough to secure the win.”
Munnich Motorsport’s Gianni Morbidelli also showed tremendous pace in his Cruze, separating the Citroën’s to take a points-scoring 4th place finish.
It was a podium apiece for the ROAL crew, with Tom Coronel securing 2nd place in race two.
