Chengdu Goldenport Circuit [CHINA] – Sunday 25 August 2013: Having dominated the fifth round of the 2013 Chinese Touring Car Championship at Chengdu, RML Group – the official chassis design partner fro the CTCC – has heralded the impressive return to form of the Shanghai VW 333 Racing VW Polo’s with the first 1-2-3 of the season and in doing so, bridging the gap to current championship leaders, Chang’an Ford to just four points.
An important customer for the UK-based touring car giants, RML, the on-track success of the VW team further highlights the ability to diversify into new markets such as China.
At the end of 2012, RML was approached by Gusto Technik to design the front & rear suspension and roll cage for the official CTCC chassis – work which was completed by March 2013 with Shanghai VW 333 Racing becoming the first customer. Their four VW Polo’s have made rapid progress as shown last weekend.
The support from RML initially focused on car design, but has since developed into race engineering support with a dedicated RML Engineer present at each event to assist in delivering maximum results.
Following a recent three-day test in Shanghai which RML’s Chief Engineer attended, the car has moved on significantly as the team looks to eclipse current championship rivals Chang’an Ford for overall title honours.
The next round of the CTCC takes place at the Guangdong International Circuit on September 22nd.
