WELLINGBOROUGH [UK] – Monday 15 December 2014: Last month RML’s Director of Race Operations, Phil Barker, attended the annual ACRCPO Le Mans Awards dinner – a tradition presented in association with Monsieur Cheverau, President of the Association des Commisaire de Route, Circuit de Piste de l’Ouest (ACRCPO) and the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO – organisers of the Le Mans 24 Hours).
Widely considered the most prestigious motorsport event in the world, the Le Mans 24 Hours has been running since 1923, making it one of the oldest in endurance racing, and, whilst competitors face the ultimate test in completing the full 24 hours, drivers and their teams alike emerge heroic to the mass following the sport has achieved over the years.
But essentially, the event (and motorsport in general) couldn’t exist without the supreme dedication shown by the volunteering marshals. Driven purely by their love and passion for the sport, marshals are usually amongst the first to arrive and the last to leave the circuit. Through long hours, hail or shine, the marshals are at their posts, ensuring the safety of our competitors at all times.
In recognition of such support and selfless commitment to keeping motorsport on track, Phil Barker was honoured to present the 2014 RML Group award to the ACO’s Marshal of the Year, Brigitte Willeme.
In addition, Phil also presented a new award to Michel Cheverau (ACRCPO) – to be awarded annually from 2015 in memory of a very dear friend and colleague of all at RML, the ACO and the entire Le Mans paddock – Anne Morel.
One of motorsport’s greatest enthusiasts, Anne held Le Mans especially close to her heart – the paddock an extension of her family. Through her years working with many across the event, Anne had a great understanding of the level of pride and delight the marshals took in working behind the scenes of such a revered race.
RML extends its congratulations and thanks to Brigitte and all of our marshals who keep us racing.
