Fastest lap in Hungary for RML Chevy Cruze TC1
Wellingborough (UK) – 15th May 2017:
The RML Chevy Cruze TC1s were out in force at the Hungaroring in Hungary for the third round of the WTCC. Esteban Guerrieri set an impressive performance in Saturday’s qualifying taking the third spot on the grid ahead of the Volvo S60 Polestars of Nicky Catsburg and Nestor Girolami in the final session. Tom Coronel was 0.056s shot of entering Q2 placing him 13th for Sunday main race while Rob Huff claimed pole in his Citroën C-Elysée followed by Mehdi Bennani.
Due to a reverse grid for the opening race on Sunday the two RML Chevy Cruze TC1s of Guerrieri and Coronel lined up eighth and 12th. Guerrieri set the best lap of the race with a time of 1:50.854 and a top speed of 142.2km/h. After 12 laps both Guerrieri and Coronel finished in the points climbing to sixth and ninth respectively. Honda driver Tiago Monteiro took his 11th championship win starting out from second after polesitter John Filippi stalled. Tom Chilton and Rob Huff completed the top three podium positions.
Guerrieri began Sunday’s main race in third but dropped back off the line to finished sixth, ahead of the Volvo S60 Polestar of Thed Bjork. Cornel finished in ninth with Ruff Huff in hot pursuit after the poleman was handed a drive-through penalty for contact, leaving Bennani to take his first victory of season. Nicky Catsburg and Tom Chilton claimed second and third position as the flag dropped.
Guerrieri remains seventh in the championship with 62 points and Coronel holds 10th with 20 points. The next round of the WTCC takes place at the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife for round four commencing on 25th May.
